A Systematic Approach to Evaluating Career Education Materials at the Local Level.
Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co., Washington, DC.
The document contains an assessment instrument, developed by three teams of educators, designed to assist career education practitioners in identifying, classifying, and evaluating career education instructional materials to determine the usefulness of a particular unit of material in a specific local situation. It also contains suggestions of sources from which career education instructional materials or information may be obtained. The instrument, which operates on a point-scoring basis, treats six aspects of the material: identification, quality, special conditions for use, content bias, research data provided, and summary evaluation. The bulk of the document consists of the instrument itself and a detailed outline on its use, including definitions of terms and an explanation of some of the individual items of the instrument. Appended are a list of sources of career education materials and a list of more than 100 non-copyrighted career education instructional units, indexed by State, which were developed by local school districts and State departments of education and chosen for inclusion because they seemed to be well-developed and potentially useful for career education programs.
