This publication, a pamphlet included in the B'nai B'rith Occupational Brief Series, directs its attention to the profession of engineering. It is described as that profession in which knowledge of the mathematical and natural sciences, gained by study, experience, and practice, is applied with judgment to develop ways to utilize economically the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of mankind. The education needed and personal requirements expected are presented; opportunities for minority youths are stressed. Fields of specialization, aeronautical and astronautical engineering, agriculatural engineering, ceramic engineering, chemical, civil, electrical, industrial, mechanical, mining and metallurgical as well as general engineering are briefly discussed. Other points of interest presented include opportunities for men and women, salaries, hours and working conditions, advantages and disadvantages, and employment outlook.
