Summative Evaluation of the Measurement of Weight Unit of the Money, Measurement and Time Program. Research Report No. 72.
Krus, Patricia H.; And Others
Field testing of the Weight Unit of the Money, Measurement and Time Program was conducted with 23 elementary school classes of educable mentally handicapped (EMH) children. The 227 Ss were assigned to the experimental group, the Hawthorne group, or the control group. Two criterion referenced tests were administered to determine Ss' functional understanding of weight, their weighing skills, and related vocabulary skills. Testing demonstrated that the unit increased Ss' knowledge of weight skills and vocabulary. Analyses of community location effects indicated that the unit was quite effective in rural and suburban communities, as well as in urban areas. All teachers who returned evaluation forms (57 percent) experssed a preference for the unit over other instructional materials. (GW)
