This teaching module is the first in a cluster which will familiarize participants with the most common methods and materials used in teaching reading in Spanish. Upon completion of this module, participants should be able to (a) describe at least two methods of teaching reading in Spanish, (b) apply the corresponding techniques of each of the above to a teaching-learning situation, (c) identify the advantages and disadvantages of two other methods that may be used in teaching reading in Spanish, and (d) teach a reading lesson. Participants complete a preassessment test, choose tasks from a list of instructional activities, and conclude the module with a postassessment test. Appendixes include an outline for a daily lesson plan, and articles entitled "The Teaching of Reading in Spanish," and "On the Teaching of Reading in Spanish for the Follow-Through Program." (PB)
