Play It Safe: Creating a Safe Environment for Children.

This booklet describes the materials, objectives, and procedures of a parent workshop on home and toy safety. The workshop was designed to encourage parents to use common sense, apply what they already know about safety, be prepared to handle emergency situations effectvely, and be alert to the potential dangers of toys. Contained in the booklet are the workshop handouts: charts defining developmental tasks and the safe way to perform them with children from birth to three years; household safety guidelines for all areas of the house; fact sheets on poisonous materials and electrical safety; information on fire safety and emergency procedures; school safety and health emergency policies; lead poisoning information; guidelines for choosing large and small, indoor and outdoor toys according to age and ability; and emergency first aid information. Resources for preparing and procuring workshop materials are given, including annotated bibliographies, agencies to contact for more information and materials, and a workshop evaluation questionniare.
