Criteria for Planning the University Learning Resources Center.
Merrill, Irving R.; Drob, Harold A.
Initiated in 1969 at the request of the University of California President's Advisory Committee on Learning Resources, this study identifies the essential criteria for planning university learning resources centers in the 1970's. General definitions of learning resources for conventional and innovative instruction are given together with a brief historical description of the evolution of campus-wide centers for learning resources. The administrative criteria for management, decentralization, and control of such centers are then considered. While there is considerable variation in the needs of individual campuses, some guidelines for staffing and facilities are suggested. The study concludes with a description of how planning-programing-budgeting systems can be applied to learning resources centers. (DGC)
