The papers in this book were selected from those presented at the 1972 and 1973 International Reading Association Conventions. The divisions within this volume focus attention on four major areas. "Comprehension of Content in Reading" discusses the comprehension process for the beginning reader, reading mathematics texts, using students' writing patterns to repattern reading material, the reading process and the beginning reader, and classroom implications of models of the reading process. "Teachers" contains articles on teaching reading, inservice education, and evaluation of teaching higher level comprehension skills. "Tangibles" discusses use of the newspaper for instruction, use of nonprint media in language development, and controlling readability in teacher-made materials. Finally, "Techniques" discusses creative writing, using literature in the reading program, developing comprehension skills, assessing student's reading ability, and the right to read. (WR)
