Guidance and Counseling: A Call for Change? Montana SACVE [State Advisory Council on Vocational Education] Public Meeting (Helena, January 11, 1974).
Montana State Advisory Council for Vocational Education, Helena.
Tabulated and discussed are responses to questionnaires distributed before and after a conference on the state of vocational education counseling in Montana, attended by 182 educators, school board members, students, and representatives of business, industry, labor, State legislature, and the general public. Responses to topical questions posed in small group sessions are also reported in detail. In general, participants agreed that there is a need for more involvement in guidance and counseling on the part of communities, schools, students, parents, business, industry, labor, service organizations, and government. The second most frequent suggestion was for supervised work experience, followed by suggestions for redevelopment of counselor preparation curriculum and provision of extensive inservice training for counselors, teachers, and administrators. The National Advisory Council for Vocational Education Sixth Report, which recommends steps for improving guidance and counseling services, is presented in an appendix, along with two speeches (one in outline form) responding to the report.
