California Business Education Program Guide for Office and Distributive Occupations.
California State Dept. of Education, Sacramento. Bureau of Business Education.
The curriculum development project intends to assist and guide distributive and office education teachers in developing curriculum and guidelines for a well-planned office and distributive education training program on the secondary and adult level. To prepare students with entry-level competencies (skills, attitudes, and knowledges) compatible with the needs of employers, the guide contains student-oriented performance objectives, optional approaches to instruction, and provides for competency-based instruction. Competencies common to both distributive and office occupations are based on seven occupations selected through task analysis studies: general office clerk, clerk-typist, stenographer, salesperson, checker-cashier, service station attendant, and waiter-waitress. A model illustrates the competencies common to each occupation, and brief job descriptions are provided. Sixteen competency modules are contained in the guide: adding machine; data processing; grooming; handwriting; instructions; job application; making change; math computations; oral communication; references, manuals, directories, catalogs; simple business records; sorting, checking; verifying; spelling; telephone; working with people; and written communication. Each module, organized according to condition, performance, and standards headings, is complete with appropriate testing formats. (JB)
