Reading, Writing, and Numbering: First Grade.
The first grade instructional unit, part of a grade school level career education curriculum series, is designed to assist learners in relating present experiences to past and future ones. Before the main body of the lessons is described field test results are reported and key items are presented: the concepts, the estimated instructional time, the vocabulary introduced, the resources required, and the instructor preparation tasks. Instructional procedures are presented in three sections--an introduction, learners' tasks, and a summary. Some supplenental activities are presented, strategy and resource profiles provided, and assessment procedures outlined. The unit's overall purpose is to help the learner understand the importance of developing those skills that will enable him to become a competent individual. By taking a close look at three basic skills (reading, writing, and numbering) that he uses in school, at home, and at work, the learner becomes aware of the fact that the skills are relevant to everyday life. The 8-hour unit develops skills in the areas of reading, math, writing, and social studies and is applicable to group instruction. Transparency masters, game materials, and sample forms are included.
