You + ??? = Friendship: Self Knowledge and Interpersonal Skills. Developmental Level 4-6.
Magnuson, Carolyn; And Others
This teaching module is part of a set of materials designed to provide educators with activities infusing career education concepts into existing curriculum for the K-6 grade level. Building on the foundation laid in the teaching module dealing with transactional strategies in interpersonal relationships on the K-3 grade level, this module focuses on the further development of the students' comprehension of these strategies and complexities of interpersonal relationships on the 4-6 grade level. The major objective of the five activities, in the first of six learning sequences, is to describe the types of interpersonal relationships through role-playing and team work. The six activities in sequence 2 (involving discussion, chart making, planning, role-playing, and art) revolve around the appreciation of personal rights and responsibilities within relationships. The third, fourth, and fifth sequences concentrate on the importance and effects of honesty, genuineness, trust, and loyalty on interpersonal relationships. Sequence 6 describes what factors the students consider important in friendships. All learning sequences are introduced by objectives, an overview, and educator's information and preparation tasks. Each activity is organized under the headings of suggested materials/resources and skill development, and contains detailed suggestions for the teacher's use. (JB)
