Environmental Education Program. Final Report.
Edwards, Joan; Batty, Sara O.
This final report deals with the efforts of the Environmental Action Coalition of New York City to change its network of recycling centers from collection points to educational centers for learning about solid waste and related environmental problems. This change was accomplished by first increasing the efficiency and the stability of the centers which were then better able to handle the additional educational input. Educational materials such as speakers, films, slides, posters, and printed literature were utilized in the educational approach. The procedures appeared effective; the type of educational impact of the recycling center depended upon the type of community in which it was located. Each community used the site in a different way depending on its specific needs and problems. This report contains a description of this recycling program including an introduction, methods, results and conclusions. The appendices contained in the report include educational materials distributed in schools, education materials distributed to sites, "Trash is Cash" information sheets, sample materials, and charts and lists explaining progress of the program.
