Minorities in Engineering: A Blueprint for Action. A Report by the Planning Commission for Expanding Minority Opportunities in Engineering.
This report is the result of a seven-month study by the ad hoc Planning Commission for Expanding Minority Opportunities in Engineering charged with developing guidelines to increase participation of underrepresented minorities in the engineering profession. Following a report summary and recommendations, Chapter 2, the progress of minorities through the educational system, reviews the history and current status of each of the four underrepresented minority groups in the American educational system. Chapter 3, engineering education and minorities in engineering, provides a comprehensive overview of the process by which engineering students of all races are educated in the United States. Chapter 4, educational goals and measures of progress, sets forth the task force's proposed goal of equality in enrollment and retention among all students being educated as engineers. Chapter 5, mechanism for progress, discusses the financial requirements as well as the possible sources of financial support for the additional minority engineering students called for throughout the report.
