Indicated Undergirdings of Mastery Learning.
Hoffman, Alf
The pre- and posttestings of 30 emotionally disturbed children (median age 10.3 years) provided with short term residential services (median stay 8.2 months) in a mental health facility were evaluated to determine if there were a significant time rate of change in mastery learning and if the significant factors could be identified. The test battery included the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, the Wide Range Achievement Test, the Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities, and the Gray Oral Reading Test. Results indicated that time on-task, on-task concentration, and short term memory were significantly related to undergirding capabilities and skills required for mastery learning; and that Ss made greater than expected academic gains.
