A National Survey of Graduate Courses in Classroom Communication Theory and Skills Available to Practicing Elementary and Secondary Teachers.
Lynn, Elizabeth Meagher
This study was undertaken to obtain descriptive information on the recent emergence of classroom communication courses for working teachers. Questionnaires were sent to chairmen of graduate education departments, to directors of graduate teacher training, and to directors of graduate continuing education. The survey obtained a 77.66 percent rate of response from 300 selected institutions. Among other findings, results showed that the number of communication courses for practicing teachers is growing, twice as many communication courses are taught through education departments as through speech departments, and there are four widely different programs which could serve as models. Recommendations were made for the ongoing development, or establishment, of such courses and programs. (Author/RB)
