The Mathematics Clinic. Final Report.
Irons, Jerry L.
The purpose of this study was to gain information which would be helpful in designing and implementing a mathematics clinic in a university setting which would serve three purposes: provide remedial instruction for elementary- and secondary-school under-achievers, provide a situation in which the process of learning mathematics might be studied, and provide a facility for use in training pre-service and in-service teachers. Six existing clinics identified by a panel of mathematics educators were surveyed using an instrument constructed for this study and on-site visits. Literature and conferences on diagnosis and remediation served as sources of additional information. For each of the university clinics surveyed this report provides information concerning personnel, history of the clinic, nature of pupils served, diagnostic methods used, and relationship with the university.
