The Devil Has Slippery Shoes. A Biased Biography of the Child Development Group of Mississippi.
Greenberg, Polly
This book provides an insider's account of the attempts of the Child Development Group of Mississippi (CDGM) to introduce self-help educational innovations into the Black community of Mississippi. It documents the efforts of one of the first OEO-financed Head Start projects designed to help the Black people of Mississippi overcome economic, educational, psychological, racial, social, and political obstacles in the face of considerable opposition from the Ku Klux Klan, the local press, the Mississippi state government, southern senators and congressmen, the Office of Economic Opportunity itself, and many militant elements of the Black community.
