This text was developed for use in the basic Brazilian Portuguese course at the Foreign Service Institute. Unit 1 contains a list of useful expressions for memorization followed by a pronunciation lesson and practice drills based on the basic sentences already learned. Units 6, 12, and 18 are review units and each contains exercises covering the work in the five previous lessons. Each of the other units is divided into the following parts: (1) basic dialogues, (2) pronunciation lessons, and (3) grammatical notes and drills. Some of the later lessons also contain short reading passages. (PMP)
