Oral Reading of Scripture: Denominational Application and a Successful Lectures' Workshop Format.
Wolff, Florence I.
This study reveals: (1) the extent to which Protestant, Jewish, and Catholic religious services include oral reading of Scripture (verbatim) by the clergy and lay lectors; (2) how effectively oral reading of Scripture is performed in religious services; and (3) the apparent need for professional training of clergy and lay lectors in oral reading of Scripture. A productive Mobile Lectors' Workshop, funded by the Marianist Institute for Christian Renewal at the University of Dayton in Ohio, is described and analyzed as a successful approach to preparing clergy and lay lectors for effective oral reading of Scripture.
