Facilities Sharing Questionnaire Survey.
California Community Colleges, Sacramento. Office of the Chancellor.
In order to determine the extent to which the California community colleges share and borrow facilities, a questionnaire was sent to each California community college in January 1974. Sixty-six (96 percent) of the 69 districts responded. Analysis of the data revealed that the typical campus shared 7.5 facilities and borrowed 5.6. More than 37 kinds of facilities were shared. The facilities most commonly shared were physical education facilities (gymnasiums, athletic fields, swimming pools, and stadiums); general purpose classrooms; and general use facilities (theaters, cafeterias, and libraries). The most commonly borrowed facility was the general purpose classroom; classrooms were borrowed from other school districts, public agencies, and private parties by half of the districts. Libraries, extension centers, specialized and class laboratories, and physical education facilities are also frequently borrowed. For shared facilities, the range of participation includes from 47 percent to over 60 percent of the 66 districts. Slightly over 50 percent of the reporting districts borrow facilities. Data is tabulated and examples of facility sharing at 12 institutions are presented. Also included are descriptions of a telefacsimile sharing project and the Learning Resource Centers network. (DC)
