This volume discussed the research methodology used in the National Longitudinal Surveys of Labor Market Ecperience (NLS). The survey studied employment market conditions for four groups in the labor force: men, aged 45-59; women, aged 30-44; young men, aged 14-24; and young women, aged 14-24. Data were collected on 20,000 individuals over a five year period. This information included work experience, unemployment, commuting costs, socioeconomic variables, marital and family status, job attitudes and aspirations, environmental variables, and financial considerations. Data collection was performed by use of interview and questionnaire. Information on access to NLS data tapes and descriptions of their terminology and filing systems were included. (SM)
