This six-part report recounts discussions of a 3-day seminar concerned with general principles to guide teachers and advisors in designing a physical education curriculum for students, ages 8 to 13. The following sections are covered: (a) children's growth and development, which concerns adolescent development, physical characteristics, and physical skills; (b) the middle years of schooling, which deals with the common principles of education, the need for continuity in learning, and the problems of curriculum development in the field of physical education; (c) the physical education curriculum, which espouses four views on the sequence of learning experiences to be devised and organized in physical education during the middle years; (d) the role of the teacher, which concerns the role of the physical education teacher in the context of a total teaching organization; (e) a summary, which reviews the main points of the talks and recommendations of the discussion groups; and (f) recommendations of the group concerning the curriculum, time allocation, teaching staff, mixed classes, and facilities.
