Elementary Occupational Information Program: Keystone to Career Development. Bulletin No. 51-374.
Illinois State Board of Vocational Education and Rehabilitation, Springfield. Div. of Vocational and Technical Education.
Based on the assumption that career education can unify the entire educational plan through progressive learning experiences based on the developmental level of the students, the publication was produced to serve as a guide to local educational personnel and is limited in scope to examples of activities for program planning, implementation, and evaluation. At the elementary school level, an organized sequence of career developmental learning experiences is referred to as an Occupational Information Program. One purpose of the program is to help each student expand his knowledge about the world-of-work and himself so that he can make realistic occupational preferences and curriculum decisions by the time he enters high school. The document provides a program rationale, examples of inservice activities to generate the support and involvement of staff members, examples of student performance objectives, sample activities involving resource persons in the classroom and utilizing external resources (field trips), and ideas for developing learning experiences. Examples of evaluation instruments are included. (Author/AJ)
