On the instruction of the Council of Ontario Universities, the Advisory Committee on Academic Planning in cooperation with the Committee of Ontario Deans of Engineering has conducted a planning assessment for doctoral work in industrial engineering and systems design. Recommendations for doctoral work in engineering studies are presented. Following these recommendations the consultants report on industrial engineering and systems design is presented. This report discusses the evolution and development of industrial engineering, industrial engineering in Ontario and Canada, and the demand for industrial engineers. Three universities, the University of Toronto, University of Windsor, and the University of Waterloo, are discussed in relation to the nature of programs offered, faculty quality and size, quality of student body, physical facilities, and recommendation.
