Education and Modernization in Egypt. Selections from Seminars Organized by Ain Shams University, Cairo for the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (1972 and 1973).
Salah El-Din Kotb, Yusef, Ed.
This book presents selections from seminars whose purpose was to provide American teacher educators and faculty from related disciplines with a first-hand exposure to the modernization process in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The analysis of this topic focuses on three major areas affected in the modernization process: education, culture, and economic development. (The book is divided into sections for each of these areas as well as a fourth section which presents an orientation and general introduction to Egypt.) The contributors present an overview of the impact of modernization on Egyptian life and institutions. The specific topics covered under the three general themes of education, culture, and economic development are diverse. The volume, therefore, presents a series of perspectives rather than a set of closely integrated sector analyses; the perspectives, however, are those of Egyptian specialists in three areas.
