This document contains the constitution and the bylaws of the American Federation of Teachers. The constitution is comprised of 12 articles which deal with the name and objectives of the organization, membership, chartering of state and local units, federation officers, the Executive Council, conventions, representation of state and local units at the convention, revenues to the organization, amendments to the constitution, affiliation with AFL-CIO, referenda, and parliamentary authority governing the federation. The bylaws contain special rules for federation conventions, appointment of the Committee on Credentials for conventions, convention program and procedure, convention committees, nominations and election procedures, the establishment of standing committees, budgets, audits, revenues, and procedures for the suspension of rules and amendment of bylaws. Amendments to the constitution and bylaws which were adopted at the 58th convention in August 1974 are underlined for the ease of the reader who is already familiar with these documents. A brief index to the constitution and to the bylaws is also provided. (HMD)
