Approximate Computation. National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Yearbook 12 . Reprint 1966.
Divided into two major parts, the teaching of approximate computation and the theory of numerical processes, this yearbook has four overall goals. The first is to determine to what extent the recommendations concerning approximate computation, which were made by the National Committee on Mathematical Requirements, have been carried out. The second is the analysis of the theory of numerical processes with suitable mathematical rigor. The third is the development of proper techniques for working with approximate data in the secondary schools. The last is the presentation of outlines guiding the treatment of approximate computation in elementary algebra and trigonometry, intermediate algebra, and advanced algebra and trigonometry. (LS)
