This course outline is a guide for teaching the principles and basic fundamentals of beginning skin and scuba diving in grades 7-12. The course format includes lectures, skills practice, films, and tests that focus on mastery of skills and understanding correct usage of skin and scuba equipment. Course content includes the following: (a) history, (b) safety procedures, (c) principles and physiological effects, (d) terminology, (e) social and ethical values, (f) proper care and use of skin and scuba and equipment, and (g) basic skills of skin scuba diving. Warm-up exercises and lead-up activities are illustrated. Resources for teacher and pupils are recommended. Procedures for giving a skills test are outlined. (A six-item bibliography is included.)
