The Higher Education Location Program (H.E.L.P.): Wisconsin's Answer to a Multi-Campus System's Information Crisis.
Bradley, Mark J.
In response to the information need of prospective students, parents, and high school guidance counselors, the University of Wisconsin system initiated a service unique among multicampus systems in the United States. The Higher Education Location Program, or HELP, is a statewide, toll-free telephone counseling service designed to provide one central source of information concerning any 2-year center, 4-year campus, or extension program in the University of Wisconsin system. After an initial 4-month pilot period, an extensive followup study was conducted to determine the need for HELP and the effectiveness it has on the work of university admissions staff, as well as high school guidance counselors. The pilot period having warranted HELP's continuance, serveral innovations were made in the program to increase its effectiveness. These are also discussed. (Author)
