National Faculty Associations in Collective Bargaining: A Comparative Discussion. Special Report No. 8.
Lussier, Virginia Lee
This study examines national and local chapter positions of the three national faculty associations engaged in collective bargaining (AAUP, AFT, and NEA). It explores four areas - history, negotiating objectives, strategies, and politics. Organizational competition and, more importantly, local issues have resulted in wide diversity among the stances of national organizations and individual local affiliates, as well as among the local units of the national organizations Attitudes and behavior of college collective bargaining agents often seem to be determined at the local rather than the national level.
