Hearings were held on a "Joint resolution to authorize and request the President to call a White House conference on library and information services in 1976." The purpose of the conference would be to develop recommendations for further improvement and growth of the nation's libraries and information centers in order to make information and ideas accessible; make use of new technology; encourage cooperation and coordination among libraries; and increase public support of libraries.
