Model of Educational Rewards for Innovative Teaching.
Monroe County Intermediate School District, MI.
The purpose of this project is to encourage innovative teaching through support and reward systems; specifically, its objectives are the generation, implementation, and sharing of innovative curricular ideas and classroom procedures. Participants are teachers, students, parents, other school staff and the community. The following elements are important to the project: a) a teacher support team which is composed of one other teacher, a student, a parent, and the teacher's principal, department head, or supervisor, assists teachers; b) every school building whithin which a teacher receives support for his or her activities is rewarded; c) students, parents, and community persons or groups are invited to initiate an innovation through a classroom teacher who formally submits the application to a coordinating body of school and community representatives; d) the teacher receives the necessary support in terms of equipment and materials to implement the approved idea; d) goals are established, and an evaluation design developed for each proposal; and f) success results in additional monetary reward which can be used for materials, field trips, or other kinds of educational enrichment.
