Report of Ad Hoc Committee on Energy Efficiency in Transportation to the Interdepartmental Fuel and Energy Committee of the State of New York. Interim Report.
New York State Interdepartmental Fuel and Energy Committee, Albany.
After presenting the background of the availability of fuel for transportation and the increasing per capita energy consumption, the report examines the State's role in energy conservation. Five proposals are outlined: (1) a coordinated education program designed to increase public awareness of the current energy situation; (2) a pilot program of measuring fuel savings that might be realized through the use of radial tires in the State motor vehicle fleet; (3) a redirection of State employee travel habits and patterns; (4) a determination of whether the provision of high speed rail service operating in the Albany to New York City corridor would contribute to fuel conservation; and (5) the establishment of a closed-circuit telecommunications system between New York City and Albany as a one-year pilot program to conserve energy by reducing the number of automobile trips between these cities.
