The field experience component of the competency-based elementary teacher preparation sequence that was developed at the University of Toledo as part of the Ohio Model consists of two learning modules: a) planning, implementation, and evaluation; and b) gaining acceptance and respect as a member of the multiunit school. The first module is completed in four phases, each of which requires the student to develop, carry out, and evaluate one unit plan. The second module requires the student to demonstrate that he can a) gain acceptance as a functioning team member, b) establish a trust relationship with children, c) assume responsibilities without formal direction, and d) establish a cooperative working relationship with noninstructional staff members.
