Technician Education Yearbook 1973-1974.
Prakken, Lawrence D., Ed.
In this sixth (1973-74) edition of the Technician Education Yearbook, the current status in the development of community/junior colleges and technical institutes is presented on the basis of information gathered from replies to more than 3,000 questionnaires. Nine articles relating to new issues, problems, and proposals are compiled in the first section. Included in the second section are eight case studies of educational programs with respect to marine propulsion, graphic and applied arts, public health, laser/electro-optics, broadcast production, fluidics, veterinary science, and avionics. Three different directories are given in the third section: the list of 1,696 institutions offering technician courses, including the kinds of programs offered, admission requirements, accreditation, and enrollments; the list of 96 technologies, with all institutions offering each of these different kinds; and the list of federal and state officials in charge of technician training. The remaining sections are concerned with current occupational information, technical educational legislation on the federal level, and related professional organizations. A 100 percent increase in the number of institutions in six years is indicated. Electronics technology is found to be the most common curriculum with many others unique to a particular location. (CC)
