Handbook for Paraprofessionals in Migrant Education. A Program for the Recruitment, Training, and Utilization of Paraprofessional Personnel.

The proposed use of paraprofessionals in migrant education is one of 9 Texas Migrant Educational Development Center programs focusing on the special educational needs of the migrant Mexican American child and his family. The use of paraprofessionals in migrant education described in this handbook will be pilot tested at selected Texas Migrant Project schools. The handbook will be revised to incorporate information acquired during testing. Contents of the document are: rationale for a paraprofessional program; basic components of a paraprofessional program; recruitment; eligibility criteria for employment; selection; training criteria; technical training program; sample presentation in technical training program; behavioral training program; behavioral training techniques; bibliography for behavioral training; appendix to behavioral training program; resources for training program; role definitions; aide coordinator; types of paraprofessional aides; paraprofessional aide chart; types of non-professional aides; non-professional aide chart; bibliography; references on paraprofessional aides; and appendix to paraprofessional aide handbook.
