Communication Efforts of the Indiana State Police Public Information Division: A study of Police Image.
Bittner, John Robert
A study of communication efforts by the Indiana State Police to improve the organization's "image" with the public included a history of the force based on documents and interviews with retired and active members. The study also examined information officers' perceptions of the image of the Indiana State Police, as well as the different approaches they use in addressing their messages to various audiences. Four speeches in particular were examined to determine the image each conveyed. Included is an experimental study of audience reaction to a speech delivered by an Indiana State Police information officer, a study which attempted to discover whether any significant change in public perceptions of the police could be noted.
