F. Scott Fitzgerald: A Collection of Criticism.
Eble, Kenneth E., Ed.
The essays in this collection touch upon most of the major themes in Fitzgerald's work and upon his strengths and weaknesses as a writer. In selecting materials an attempt was made to focus upon recent critical articles, to avoid reprinting articles already available in other collections, and to refrain from using portions of books. Articles included are: "My Friend Scott Fitzgerald" by Elizabeth Beckwith MacKie; "The Road to 'Paradise': Fitzerald's Literary Apprenticeship" by Donald A. Yates; "'This Side of Paradise': The Pageantry of Disillusion" by Sy Kahn; "The Beautiful and Damned" by Sergio Perosa; "Scott Fitzgerald's Fable of East and West" by Robert Ornstein; "The Waste Land of F. Scott Fitzgerald" by John W. Bicknell; "The Craft of Revision: 'The Great Gatsby'" by Kenneth E. Eble; "Fitzgerald and the Simple, Inarticulate Farmer" by J. Albert Robbins; "Scott Fitzgerald and the 1920's" by Arthur Mizener; "'Tender is the Night' and the 'Ode to a Nightingale'" by William E. Doherty; "The Last Tycoon" by Michael Millgate; and "Fitzgerald at the End" by Midge Decter. A Selected bibliography of Fitzgerald's works, letters and biographical sources, special journals, bibliographies and checklists, books, and articles is also included. (LL)
