A Glossary of Literature and Composition. Part I of "Modern English," Revised.
Lazarus, Arnold; Smith, H. Wendell
Users of this glossary will find it an index to and a summary of concepts that writers, critics, and scholars have used to describe and discuss the English language and its literature. Concentration is given to literature (including criticism), rhetorical theory, and composition. The articles in the glossary are to be considered adjuncts to, not substitutes for, deeper study of the concepts defined and illustrated. In addition, many of the major articles conclude with selected bibliographies. Emphasis is given to the contemporary without overlooking the traditions in language and literature that remain valid.
