Selecting an Achievement Test: Principles and Procedures.
Katz, Martin
The recommended procedure for achievement test selection is presented. Following a review of some fundamental definitions of statistical properties of achievement tests (validity, reliability, and norms), major considerations to be applied in selecting achievement tests are discussed. These considerations are: (1) the characteristics of the school population, (2) the content and objectives of the curriculum, (3) the purposes of testing, and (4) the use of test scores. An appendix provided a list of U.S. publishers of standardized tests who issue test catalogs. (DB)
