Australian Science Education Project, Toorak, Victoria.
As a part of the unit materials in the series produced by the Australian Science Education Project, this teacher edition is primarily composed of three sections: a core relating to a bicycle, tests, and options. The core is concerned with basic properties of a machine such as force multiplication, speed multiplication, energy dissipation, and mechanical advantages. Options are under the headings: Gearing, "When Do Things Fall Over?", The Ramp, Strings and Wheels, Liquids Can Transfer a Force, and Other Ways of Making Life Easier. Students are asked to do the core and some of the options at their own pace, either individually or in small groups. Behavioral objectives are given to facilitate students' acquisition of outcomes. Also included in the edition are recommendations for use of the unit, lists of equipment, keys to tests and questions, and a bibliography of references. The accompanying record book is intended for students to record observations and write test answers. (CC)
