The Magic If: Stanislavski for Children.
Kelly, Elizabeth Y.
The author applies the Stanislavski theories on acting to the training of children in dramatics. She bases the book on what she terms the "magic question" that can awaken a child's imagination: "What would I do if . . .?" The opening chapters are designed to assist the student in developing an awareness of his senses for the purpose of interpreting a character to an audience and also in gaining a new awareness of himself and his surroundings. Other chapters deal with concentration, memory, use of emotional reactions, communication to an audience, bodily action, and interpersonal relationships with other performers. At the end of the book there is a guide for the parent or teacher about implementing the exercises and practice projects suggested for the child. (RN)
