Phelps, William R.; Reno, Jack
Joint training of rehabilitation counselors and social caseworkers has the potential for developing and improving professional techniques to increase the number of handicapped welfare recipients who can be rehabilitated. A regional curriculum for Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia, this joint training effort is designed: (1) to foster awareness, interest and cooperation between sponsoring agencies and employers of the disabled; and (2) to strive to develop a program effective in helping disabled welfare applicants and recipients overcome barriers to rehabilitation. The course of study: (1) facilitates communication and understanding between agencies; (2) clarifies the teamwork approach and problems encountered in joint-agency efforts; and (3) provides the Department of Welfare and Division of vocational Rehabilitation with an interagency joint orientation. The units of study outlined include role identification, client evaluation, delivery of service system, community resources, and feedback system between cooperating agencies. (Author/NMF)
