Proceedings: Governor's Symposium on Vocational Education, Chicago, Illinois, May 4-5, 1972. Investing in People.
Illinois State Advisory Council on Vocational Education, Springfield.
A 2-day sumposium, attended by Illinois businessmen, labor leaders, educators, and government personnel, was held to: (1) define the major problems and opportunities that will challenge the State over the next 10 to 15 years, (2) clarify the State's purposes and objectives that must direct the meeting of the challenges, and (3) develop a framework of concepts and principles on which policies and decisions can be soundly based. Some of the issues discussed in the major presentations included: (1) the prediction and control of the occupational structure and training and shaping the work force to match that structure, (2) the rapidly changing job market, (3) the impact of vocational education and job training on the problems of unemployment, (4) the changing work ethic, and (5) the image and role of vocational education. Texts of the major presentations and interviews with the participants are included in this publication. (SB)
