Federal Programs for the Retarded: A Review and Evaluation. Report to the President.
President's Committee on Mental Retardation, Washington, DC.
Reports from 22 federal departments and agencies on their programs related to mental retardation have been compiled for submission to the President's Committee on Mental Retardation for review, analysis, and subsequent action. For each report, the overall mission is given, as well as unit identification, external programs (services or activities), internal programs (if applicable), and future strategies or summary. Departments represented are the following: Agriculture; Commerce; Defense; Health, Education, and Welfare; Housing and Urban Development; Interior; Justice; Labor; State; Transportation; and Treasury. Executive agencies included are: ACTION (to bring together volunteer action programs such as the Foster Grandparent Program and VISTA), Appalachian Regional Commission, Civil Service Commission, General Services Administration, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, National Science Foundation, President's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped, President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, Small Business Administration, U. S. Postal Service, and the Veteran's Administration. (MC)
