Systematic Thinking About Education. Fastback Series, No. 17.
Hayden, Alice H.; Torkelson, Gerald M.
This booklet discusses some of the applications of sophisticated technology to various aspects of education and suggests further possible applications of technologies that are still in the initial or beginning stages. The report first attempts to define the word technology, relating it to the terms audiovisual, media, and systems. Then, the authors discuss the factors that affect a technology of instruction, those that emphasize the shift from "what" to teach to "how" to teach and that focus on the individual learner. The presentation also offers comments on technology and teacher behaviors, technology and student behaviors, and the implications of technology for the future. (JF)
