This speech recoginizes some of the problems and criticism facing liberal arts institutions. Criticisms concerning elitist, classbound, and detached institutions are examined. Recommendations suggest student, faculty and institutional actions and policies that can relate the liberal arts college more usefully to the social progress of the nation. (MJM)
