A Conceptual Scheme for Population-Environment Studies. Experimental Edition.

This K-12 comprehensive conceptual scheme for population-environment education was developed by the Population Curriculum Study to be utilized as a framework in which existing courses of study can continue to be used and in which new materials can be adopted. Its primary value is that it can serve as an inventory of concepts and teaching materials and as a pattern in which faculty interrelationships can be identified. The scheme has been organized in two parts, first a general development, and then a more detailed expansion to facilitate the assignment of responsibility for concept attainment among the teachers. Concepts for which lesson plans have been prepared, some of which are now in experimental use, are indicated by an asterisk. It is recommended that the scheme serve as a guide for a schoolwide effort; however, it could also serve as a syllabus for a discrete course in population-environment studies.
