Teacher Strikes, Work Stoppages, and Interruptions of Service, 1969-70. NEA Research Memo.
The information in this report reveals that an estimated 118,000 teachers participated in strike action and that an estimated 911,000 man-days of instruction were involved in work stoppages that varied in duration from one-half day to 23 days. Tables provide data on (1) man-days involved; (2) strikes and work stoppages by organization, month, and State; (3) summary of strikes and work stoppages (by type of organization involved) from January 1940 to June 1970; (4) strikes and work stoppages by school year, organization, month, and by State from July 1960 through June 1970; and (5) system-by-system listing of strikes during 1969-70.
