Industrial Arts in the Elementary School Program: Motivation for Learning in Kindergarten to Grade 4.
New York City Board of Education, Brooklyn, NY. Bureau of Curriculum Development.
Based on an experimental project conducted in six elementary schools in New York City, this curriculum guide contains suggested topics to illustrate how industrial arts activities can be correlated with classroom learnings. The materials are planned for implementation from kindergarten to Grade 4, with teacher and student shop-based experiences suggested for language arts, social studies, science, and mathematics at each grade level. The guide also includes a sample unit for each grade level, which contains objectives for both teacher and students, suggestions for launching the unit, experiences and activities, evaluation techniques, and a bibliography of books, films, and records. An introductory section provides program objectives, roles of the classroom teacher and industrial arts consultant, and teaching suggestions. (SB)
